Paul went to India for 5 weeks and came back via Switzerland, where he working in Zurich for a week, and then Elizabeth and Opal flew out to meet him for a 10-day holiday in France, Switzerland and Germany, staying with friends. We didn't do a good picture-taking job except in Potsdam, and even then we didn't get enough of people other than Opal. But everybody had a fantastic time. Opal loved the stairs, the animals, and the food -- she showed all her toys to Toupie, Angel and Sabine's dog, and she took up crawling again to chase Eliot and Christine's cat (a very patient animal who shared her toys with equanimity and let Opal catch up with her and pet her occasionally.) Paul got to see all sorts of new things, and drive a big black Mercedes on the autobahn. Elizabeth got to see old friends and new places on the same trip, a lovely combination.

Opal climbed all of the stairs at San Souci, and was called "cute" in 4 languages by the time she reached the top.

Still climbing the stairs at Sans Souci, but the way she prefers -- standing up, like everybody else.
