Supercat

Jun 24, 2009

Opal informed us at dinner that soon, she is going to write her very own comic, and it is going to be about Supercat. Father Cat (I capitalize this because I think this is a Richard Scarry reference) is always going out and doing things while Mother Cat stays home with the kittens, which isn't fair, so Supercat is going to be a heroine, and Father Cat is going to have the kittens in his tummy and born them and stay home with them, while Supercat goes out and saves people and kills bad guys. And saves the world.

Then at bedtime she told me two stories: The Jackal and the Cantaloupe, and the Man and the Watermelon. I cannot possibly reproduce them in their entirety, but the first one was about a jackal who got shut up in a cage because he roared and people thought he was a lion, but he got out and went clip-clop clip-clop because he was imitating a horse, and then he met up with the cantaloupe, and told it his story and the cantaloupe let him hide in its hole and then it went up in the air and fell down smash and the man ate it. (Um, maybe it was the man who was chasing the jackal? I don't know.) The second one is even odder, but it ends with the watermelon turning into a beautiful girl and flying away on a Pegasus.

Read to Opal today: Two Canterbury Tales and some Akiko.

The Running Book Count: 225 + 62 (last year 1170 + 121)
